SSD drives run silent, consume less power & perform better than hard drives, and rarely fail because they have no moving parts. The drive should not be affected by rough turbulance and by dropping, like a hard drive would.
  • Select a Thinkpad T400 14" Laptop starting at $739, upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 32bit or 64bit, a 128GB Solid State Drive, and upgrade the battery to a 6-cell or 9-cell. Apply coupon USPSAVE20T4 in the cart to get 20% off. Final price is $935 with the 6-cell battery or $991 with the 9-cell. This configuration would cost $1600 elsewhere, and most other 14" laptops with a 128GB SSD, Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB memory, and CD/DVD burner cost at least $1500.
  • Select a Thinkpad X200 or X200s 12" Laptop at either $979 or $1019. Upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 32bit or 64bit, a 128GB Solid State Drive, and upgrade the battery to a 9-cell. Apply coupon USPCBRMONDAY in the cart to get it for about $1140. The X200 (faster processor) and X200s (longer battery life) come out to about the same price after applying the coupon. They do not come with a CD/DVD drive like the 14" does, but you can easily find a portable CD/DVD USB drive for around $50. This is a good deal compared to a Dell Latitude E4200 with 128GB SSD which goes for around $1800 and a Dell Adamo 13" Laptop with 128GB SSD which go for about $1500. A 13" MacBook Air with 64GB SSD goes for around $1600.
Choosing 32bit Windows is the safer choice to ensure better compatibility, but 64bit should be okay for business use only and if you ever want to run more than 4GB of memory in the laptop (which few people ever will).
