Most other stores sell it for at least $40 plus shipping. This is a great deal for someone with a lot of data storage or backup needs. It turns any 2.5" or 3.5" Serial-ATA hard drive into a removable hot-swappable drive. The BlacX plugs into a computer's USB or eSATA port. USB can be a bit slow at about 20 MBytes/sec (a little over 1GB per minute or about 70GB per hour), or use eSATA to transfer data as fast as the drive is capable of. Most desktop PCs do not have an eSATA port, but if your motherboard has a spare Serial-ATA port, you can open up the PC's case and install a Serial-ATA to eSATA Bracket which costs about $6 after shipping fee. Being able to pop in any Serial-ATA hard drive means you can create disks full of music, videos, pictures, and backups, then eject the drive and store it in a safe place for use whenever you need it. This is better than consuming precious room on your computer's internal hard drive, which can get fragmented and make your computer run slower when filled with music and videos. |
