Details: | A-Data 120GB SSD for $35 (repost) A-Data Premier 120GB Solid State Drive for $35. Pretty good reviews, and 120GB SSDs normally sell for at $39 and up. This is a great deal if you are looking to upgrade a laptop's hard drive (slow) to a Solid State Drive (fast). Replacing a laptop's hard drive with an SSD gives a big performance boost, and far cheaper than buying a new laptop. If data security is important, look at a Samsung 850 Pro SSD which supports hardware full-disk-encryption (FDE) on compatible laptops. They are very expensive compared to regular SSDs, because they can provide automatic security from theft on compatible laptops. To see if your laptop is compatible, boot to the BIOS (normally F1, F8, F10, or ESC on bootup), look under its Security settings, and see if your laptop has a "HDD Password" or "Hard Disk Encryption" setting (example video). Note that this is separate than the BIOS's password, supervisor password, and boot passwords. If your laptop does have a hard disk encryption password feature, your laptop can automatically encrypt your entire Samsung 850 Pro SSD without needing special decryption software, protecting your data if your laptop is stolen. |
