Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is fantastic: The game offers a lot that feels like an extension to Dishonored 2 but has enough to make it its own game. My take on the game is the stealth when convenient but ultimately try and cause as much chaos as possible. The violence hasn't gotten old despite 4 games of the same thing. Revenge.Pros to the game:Mana regenerates: no more having to worry about using your powers excessively.Powers: The game reuses a few powers from the first games just slightly tweaked. You also get all of them on the 2nd mission of the game. About 30 minutes in. Displacement allows you to teleport but you place a marker first and then teleport to it after you choose to instead of instantly. This is a nice addition, lets you drop behind enemies easier; oh and you can explode enemies if you displace where they are standing. Its amusing to be able to pick up a torso or a leg and throw it at another unaware guard.Semblance steals the face of your target, allowing you to become them and have new access to places because of it. Foresight is how you move through small grates to get to new places and to walk around corners without being spotted.Contracts: A fun addition to the game. essentially side quests that you can choose to do or ignore to get more money. They are not all about wetwork which is cool. Sometimes it requires you to be stealthy and steal something unnoticed from a target, or maybe you have to carry a body to the other side of the map after you knocked them out! My personal favorite was killing a mime and making it look like suicide.New game +: is on the menu when you first start up the game; something that has been lacking in D1 &D2 until the patch that came out a few months after release.Banter: The characters have a bit more banter it seems. New mutterings of the guards are fun to listen to. Apparently the Abc song is a huge hit.Cons:Short: The main story line is substantially less then the previous installment. I ran through Dishonored 2 in around 9 hours on my first play through, D:DotO is clocking in at about 5. The game wasn't a full price of 59.99 so I can let this slide. My first run is always for the story and every play after is about trying a different style.Customization: Is lacking, powers dont really get upgraded and same with items; not like in D2.Adventure: the game lacks a little bit of invoking the Fantastic setting that was D2. I know it's hard to come up with unique levels and items but the crack in the slab and jindosh mansion are in my mind the best to levels I have ever played in a game ever. The time traveling mechanic was superb and the way the Mansion shifted according to levers was just the ingenious. D:DotO doesn't really have anything nearly that immersive. The void blade is fun and looks pretty especially the animations of Shifting your grip. But really I was hoping for more.Cannon: In D2 you can kill Billy, you can kill Dr. Hipatia. I haven't noticed much for chronology but it seems like D:DotO is after D2 but these people are still alive and well in this rendition. The conservatory is covered in plants and detritus, so I would think it takes place after D2.Overall the game is a welcome addition to the series. It is very similar in play style and doesn't reinvent the wheel but it pushes the metaplot further of the whole Dishonored series. I'm looking forward to the next game in the line, hopefully with new characters and a new story line. Arakne really nailed this game and all its predecessors, lets see if they continue in the future.
