Pros
Design: It's sleek look and compact design made it an instant hit. It doesn't look like those boring old printers that look like a nerdy box sitting in the corner of a room.
Setup: the setup was really fast and easy, especially wireless printing from the phone. Getting the laptop printing enabled took a little longer but everything worked out great in the end. HP could definitely improve the customer experience for the software installation.
Photo Printing: It's very easy to print photos on this printer. Just load the paper, choose the size and start printing. The photo quality is very professional looking. The print speed is slow for photos but I would expect that anyway and I'm not printing photos so often that it would bother me.
There are some little things that make me love this printer. For intance, the small paper output tray that opens up on its own whenever the printer is in use. This design not only saves space when the printer is not in use but also saves you the trouble from going to the printer and opening the tray manually when you need to use it, remote printing in the true sense. The printer also remembers the paper size thats in the tray, so when you have photo paper in the tray and try to print a regular document by mistake the printer stores it in memory and waits until you feed in letter-size paper.
Little Cons
Print Speed: The one problem that I noticed is the print speed, especially the time it takes to print the first paper. From the reviews it looked like people have timed it down to 15 sec. and I'm sure it takes the entire 15 secs. to print the first paper in a batch. I don't mind this terribly because I don't intend to do any heavy printing but it's something you'd like to keep in mind if you are getting this for a home-office.
Ink Usage: I used up my tri-color ink incredibly fast. I printed about 35 odd photos and I'm already seeing the low ink sign when printing. I don't think the printer came with just a starter pack because the ink cartridge looked like the regular cartridge that you buy but I could be wrong. I'll have to wait and see how soon I run out of the new one. I was somehow expecting it to last longer because printing photos at cvs costs almost nothing. I haven't done the math yet but if the ink really does run out so soon then printing photos at home may not be so much cheaper than going to the local cvs store. A pack of black and tri-colorbregular sized refill costs about $31, that's pretty expensive for occasional printing. I will have to use it for a while to see how that goes.
Overall, for its great design, usability, interface and quality I would buy this printer again in a heartbeat.
Please keep in mind one thing, though: This is an inexpensive entry-level printer. Nothing insanely fancy. And far from professional-level scanning and printing. However, if you are a home-user (and not a power user), you will be perfectly okay with this printer.
PROS:
- Size is perfect and fits on a shelf; no need to use desk/counter space
- Touch screen is grayscale, but easy to use; it's responsive and basic. I have all the information I need
- The scanner is okay; resolution is not extremely high, but remember... this is an inexpensive home printer
- Edge-to-edge printing is nice
- Duplex printing on a printer in this price range? Great! This is one feature I absolutely can't live without
- Quickly and easily linked to my home network
- The Android app? Nice... Mobile printing is simple and easy
- My printer has it's own dedicated email, so I can actually send things to be printed when I'm not at home
- In my opinion, the Instant Ink program is great (read below for more details)
CONS:
- Print speed is a tad slower than I would like
- It has needed to be "re-added" to my network twice so far; I think it's more a network issue than printer issue, though; it's been fine for a few weeks
- While the touch screen shows the basic information, it is small!
Now. About the HP Instant Ink program...
I've read many reviews that are dead-set against this HP program. After doing research, I'm quite unsure why, honestly.
I love the program, and I think it's a great HP feature -- kudos to the company. (No, I don't work for HP, and I was not paid to list the following.
A few statistics about the Instant Ink program:
1. It's NOT required you join. You are not forced to sign up. You will not get constant ads.
2. They have multiple pricing plans for the program, and all are based on the number of pages you print each month.
3. The 50-page per month plan is $2.99; the 100-page, $4.00; 300-page, $9.99. And you can rollover unused pages.
4. Your printer automatically communicates to HP when you are about to run out of ink, and they ship you new cartridges. They are set to arrive before you run out.
5. The cartridges you get are higher-output than what you would buy in the store (according to HP).
6. Annual savings? $100-$700 based on the plan you choose and how much you print.
7. Free trial (30 days, I believe)
8. You can cancel or change your plan at any time. In fact, I've already upgraded mine based on my print output.
Now a few opinions about the above:
1. Who doesn't want to save money? I know I do. I also enjoy saving time. No need to go to the store and buy cartridges or order online.
2. My first set of ink cartridges were shipped 2 days after I had my printer. Why? The cartridges that come with the printer -- like most any printer -- are low-volume.
3. A pack of ink (black and color) would cost between $30-40 depending on where you purchased them. I'm on the $4.99 plan, so I'm spending about $60 per YEAR for ink. And I know I'll need replacements more than twice (once more if you include the initial shipment).
4. The HP account you sign up for tracks your printing (page use) so you can easiliy upgrade or even downgrade as necessary. You also know your "rollover" page count if applicable.
Overall?
A nice printer. With a great ink program attached. No complaints here.
Printer: 4 stars. 1 star added because of the attached Instant Ink program.

Los consumibles caros pero por el bajo volumen que uso no tengo problema
*********Update*******
So i got to test out the scanner and printer, works perfectly, you can scan any document in pdf file or other format, It does great quality printing. The feature to order new ink online automaticaly does not work properly, it ordered new ink saying the ink was low, i had printed 1 color picture. I had to turn off the printer so it does not happen again.
****Update #2*******
Don't go for the HP instant ink deal, the deal is flawed, I have printed 1 color picture and 5 black&white docs, they send me ink after the first print and now that the "free" deal is over, they charged me $3 to for the HP instant ink deal even though I hadn't printed anything in over a month, so I cancelled the "super deal" and now they want me to return the ink that they sent which I didn't need in the first place, because if I don't, they will charge me for every page that I print after end of june, what the hell is that, what a crappy deal.
Pros:
-Super easy to hook up to wireless (about 5 steps/10 minutes and I'm a tech dummy.) Also can be hard wired.
-Able to print directly from smartphone by downloading free app.
- Scans and prints great quality photos and documents in color and B&W. Can hardly tell they're not from a photo lab.
- Quieter and faster than any other printer i've owned (not whisper quiet by any means but husband was not woken up in next room with door open)
- Can scan numerous photos at once and automatically identifies the individual photos and saves them separately (BIG time saver)
- The price when it was on sale was unbelievable. But still a good deal at full price.
- Compatible (so far anyways) with generic ink makes printing photos VERY affordable.
- Good solid packaging and with Prime I got it the next day.
- Cant think of any cons so far
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new wireless printer.
***I bought this specifically to archive 100 years of family photos that were passed down to me after my parents both passed away, it made a very daunting job a snap . I bought old school magnetic page photo albums like they had I was a kid (from Amazom of course!) and made all family members there own albums for Christmas. They made beautiful presents and a tribute to my parents that the family will cherish forever, it was affordable, and saved the Xmas shopping fuss. And I was able to keep the originals as my own
