Zagg.com - 15% off, code: iphone3g

Coupon code iphone3g gives 15% off any order, and free shipping on all orders.

This item looks really cool for someone who wants to protect their iPhone from scratches, and doesn't want a bulky protective case.
Zagg's Invisible Shield is a thin, clear protective cover for iPhone and the new iPhone 3G, available for $25 with free shipping, and coupon code iphone3g gives 15%.
It certainly is more expensive than rubber/silicone protective iPhone cases posted recently (many cost $4.50 to $15), but this one appears to provide the best protection without increasing the bulkiness of the phone.
They have several videos which demonstrate how durable the material is, and if the material ever becomes damaged, they will send you a free replacement.
Installation can take about an hour, and a Zagg installation video shows a demonstration.

The Invisible Shield is also available for many other devices, such as iPods, Garmin GPSs, TomTom GPSs, Blackberry Phones, MacBook Air Laptop Computer, iPod Touch, watches, many digital camera lenses, Nintendo Wii, Sony PSP, and lots other stuff.
The 15% coupon works for all items.
If you have an expensive digital camera, it may be worth while to prevent costly scratches for an Invisible Shield screen protector for about $10 after coupon.

Restaurant Week in Boston this week

Boston is having its semi-annual Restaurant Week, giving some very good deals on some restaurants if you know where to look.
The Restaurant Week menus offer:

3 Course Lunch for $20.08

3 Course Dinner for $33.08

These deals are available at participating restaurants.

Restaurant week meals all include an appetizer, main course, and dessert.
When you sit down at a participating restaurant, you must request the Restaurant Week Menu with limited selections.
Some menus can be seen online here.

Sites which have Boston's Restaurant Week details and menus:

Click on "lunch" or "dinner" menus to view online.

OpenTable.com complete list of restaurants participating in this season's Restaurant Week.
Use that site to help find the best deals, by picking a restaurant labeled with 3 or 4 dollar-signs, signifying a meal is normally expensive there.

RestaurantReview.com, another site showing participating restaurants.

Most restaurants give a restaurant week dinner that normally would cost $33, but the nicer places usually have the best deals around.
Some places give a dinner which normally would cost $50 or $60 per person for the $33 restaurant week price.
Examples of hot deals in Boston:

Icarus - Dinner normally costs $45+ per person, so $33 for a 3 course meal is very good.
Wine adds $10 more.

Oishii in the South End - lunch only.
Some of the best sushi in New England, and meals normally cost $30 to $60 per person.

Smith & Wollensky - great steaks, in a castle. A 3-course lunch would normally cost around $30, and 3-course dinner around $50, so paying $20 for lunch or $33 for dinner is a hot deal.
A glass of wine adds $10 more.

Fleming's Steakhouse - great steaks. A 3-course dinner normally costs around $50.

Davio's - very good pasta, great atmosphere, excellent service, but very limited Restaurant Week menu.

Top of the Hub - Lunch only, good food and best view of the city.
Their pricey food tastes average at best, but $20 for a 3-course lunch is still a great deal for the view.

Sibling Rivalry - a fancy looking meal, great deal with lots of choices on their Restaurant Week menu.
Their 3-course dinner would normally cost around $40, so $33 is a pretty good deal.

Tangierino - great Moroccan food, good value for the price.

All participating restaurants should have busier crowds than normal, but reservations are not too difficult to get.
Peak times can get a little crowded especially on a Friday night, but
customers who show up after 8pm for dinner or after 1pm for lunch may have no wait.

Staples.com - free label maker with each $30 spent

You can get a free Brother PT70BM Label Maker with every $30 (actual dollar amount) shown in your cart, when applying coupon 65681 in the cart.
Limit 10 free label makers in an order.

You can add one big item or several small items.
Some examples:

Black Leather Manager's Chair for $50, and you can add one Brother PT-70BM Label Maker, apply coupon 65681 and the label maker will be free on the final checkout page.
Add $10 worth of any other stuff to get the cart to $60, and you can do 2 free label makers (since $30 goes into $60 two times).

V7 22" LCD Monitor for $220.
So $30 goes into $220 seven times, so you can add 7 Brother PT-70BM Label Makers, apply coupon 65681, and all 7 label makers will be free on the final checkout page.

V7 24" LCD Monitor for $350.
So $30 goes into $350 eleven times, so you can add a maximum of 10 Brother PT-70BM Label Makers, apply coupon 65681, and all 10 label makers will be free on the final checkout page.
Most other stores sell 24" LCD monitors for $350 to $400, so $350 with 10 label makers is a pretty good deal.

15-Sheet Heavy Duty Crosscut Shredder for $100.
So $30 goes into $100 three times, so you can add 3 PT-70BM Label Makers, apply coupon 65681, and all 3 will be free on the final checkout page.

A pretty good deal, since each PT-70 usually costs around $30.

APC BE325R 325VA UPS is on sale for $15.
It's a great deal for a small UPS for providing battery backup to simple devices.
We recommend using a more powerful UPS for most computers (500VA and above), but this one will do fine for a basic and slim desktop PCs.
Or it could be used to provide battery backup power to small electronics, such as an alarm clock, a fish tank filter, or a DVR, or with small electronics without any moving parts such as a cablemodem and a router.
Fewer devices plugged in to the battery outlets will provide longer battery life (for example, protecting only an alarm clock may give an hour or more of battery time, whereas protecting a PC and monitor may only give 10 minutes).

CircuitCity.com gives free shipping with $24+ orders.

Dell.com - Inspiron 530s Slim Desktop PC: Core 2 Duo, 2GB, 320GB $369 (expired)

(expired: 8/16)

Inspiron 530s Slim Desktop PC for $369 with free shipping when upgrading the processor to a Core 2 Duo E4600, and leaving the other configurations with no monitor, 2GB memory, 320GB hard drive, 16x DVD+/-RW Drive, and 1 year warranty.
This is a great deal on a desktop PC, a slim model which takes up little space on or under a desk.
It has little room for expansion such as better video cards and additional hard drives, but the memory is pretty easy to upgrade later.

An upgrade to a faster Core 2 Duo E7200 processor for $20 more may be worth it.
Also an upgrade to a Radeon 2400 Pro 256MB video card for $60 is a fairly good deal, or add your own Geforce 8400 GS 256MB Video Card for less.

It connects up to 3 HDMI devices into one HDMI input on your TV, and supports HDMI version 1.3 which is necessary to use a Playstation 3 and Blu-Ray player.

HDHomeRun Network-Ready Dual HDTV Tuner for $139 with promo code EMCAJBCAF .
It has been a long time since we found a hot deal on this device, and it is definitely a great deal for what it does.
It provides 2 tuners for ATSC and/or QAM, and has a built-in 100-megabit Ethernet port.
You can connect to this device from any computer on your network to watch TV live, or record (like a DVR) using any compatible software, including BeyondTV on Windows, SageTV on Windows, MythTV on Linux, and Elgato EyeTV on Mac.
It requires wired network of 100 megabit or faster.
Configuring this device with PVR software can take quite a bit of effort, but once set up it can be much more powerful than a standalone DVR provided by your cable company.
However the HDHomeRun can only watch unscrambled channels (local TV, PBS, ESPN for some people, plus a couple more), and cannot tune most premium channels including all movie channels.

Dell.com - good deals on desktop PCs

Here is a list of some recently posted deals on desktop PCs:

Deals with an LCD monitor:

Vostro 410, Quad Core Desktop PC with Quad Core CPU, 1GB memory, 80GB hard drive, ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro 128MB video card, and DVD Burner.
Select Microsoft Works, which is a free upgrade during configuration.
Some addon recommendations:

add on two Dell 22" E228WFP LCD Monitors (as primary and secondary monitors), use coupon L$3Z0GV4389?F2 in the cart to get everything for $744.
This is a very good deal, considering 22" LCD monitors cost at least $200 each by themselves.
The included video card can support dual monitors.

add on a Dell 22" E228WFP LCD Monitor as the primary monitor, no secondary monitor, upgrade the memory to 2GB, hard drive to 320GB, and apply coupon L$3Z0GV4389?F2 to get everything for $649.
Considering the monitor would cost over $200 by itself, and the CPU about $200 by itself, paying $649 for a complete system is a pretty good deal.

Vostro 200 Dual Core Mini Tower with 22" LCD Monitor for $425:
Downgrade the CPU to a Pentium Dual Core E2180, the memory to 1GB, the hard drive to 80GB, and remove the "Automated PC Tune Up" option (located under the Additional Services page).
Price comes to $395 plus $30 shipping making it $425.
This is a pretty good deal for a basic desktop computer with 22" Monitor.

Vostro 200 Core 2 Duo Mini Tower with 22" LCD Monitor for $510:
Add a 19-in-1 Media Card Reader and remove "Automated PC Tune Up" (under "Additional Services") to get the price to $510 with free shipping.
It includes a Core 2 Duo E7200 CPU, Dell 22" E228WFP Widescreen LCD Monitor, 2GB memory, DVD Burner, and 250GB hard drive.

Newegg.com - BlacX Hard Drive Docking Station $30 after rebate

Thermaltake Blacx Serial-ATA Docking Station is back at $40 with free shipping, and a $10 mail-in rebate is available.
The rebate must be mailed within 20 days of purchase.

This device can be very useful for some people. It is a docking station for Serial-ATA hard drives, plugs into a PC or Mac's USB port, and lets you slide in any Serial-ATA hard drive. This makes it easy to create disks full of music, videos, pictures, and backups without taking up precious space on your computer's internal hard drive.
Eject a drive without shutting down the computer, and store the drive in a safe place.

There is another model with a built-in 4-port USB Hub, but that one usually sells for around $45 to $50 and is much bigger.
Unless you really need a USB hub, we do not recommend the more expensive model.

When hard drives are not plugged in, it is best to protect them from static damage.

Restaurant Week in Boston this week

Boston is having its semi-annual Restaurant Week this week and next week, giving some very good deals on some restaurants if you know where to look.

Unfortunately, lately most restaurants rather use Restaurant Week as a way to make a quick buck, rather than showcasing their best food at a discount.
For example, some restaurants offer a Restaurant Week dinner selection which would normally would cost around $33 if you paid regular price on a regular evening, so their Restaurant Week menu selection priced at $33 really is nothing special.
So be sure to check a restaurant's menu online before venturing out to find a great deal, because they may not have as good of a deal as you would expect.

Some restaurants not participating in Restaurant Week may have some promotions.

Sites which have Boston's Restaurant Week details and menus:

Click on "lunch" or "dinner" menus to view online.

Unofficial Restaurant Week of Boston website, some menus posted there too.

OpenTable.com complete list of restaurants participating in this season's Restaurant Week.
Note, if you are looking for a fantastic dinner for only $30, pick one labeled with a price label of 3 or 4 dollar-signs, signifying they are normally the most expensive restaurants.

RestaurantReview.com, another site showing participating restaurants.

Examples of hot deals in Boston:

Sage in the North End - reservations recommended

29 Newbury - very good food, excellent cocktails

Smith & Wollensky - great steaks, in a castle. A 3-course lunch would normally cost around $25, and 3-course dinner around $50, so paying $20 for lunch or $33 for dinner is a hot deal.
They are rumored to also offer some of their better wine selections with lunch for a few dollars extra.

Fleming's Steakhouse - great steaks. A 3-course dinner normally costs over $50.

Davio's Northern Italian - very good pasta, great atmosphere, excellent service, but very limited Restaurant Week menu

Top of the Hub - Lunch only, good food and best view of the city.
Their pricey food tastes average at best, but $20 for a 3-course lunch is still a great deal for the view.

Sibling Rivalry - a fancy meal, great deal with lots of choices on their Restaurant Week menu.
Their 3-course dinner would normally cost around $40, so $33 is a pretty good deal.

Tangierino - great Moroccan food, good value for the price.

Tasca - not participating in restaurant week, but offering a bottle of wine for $4.

All participating restaurants should have busier crowds than normal.
Reservations are recommended to avoid waiting for a table at peak time (5:30pm to 8pm).
Customers who show up after 8pm for dinner or after 1pm for lunch may have little or no wait.
