The first to be "filmed" completely with digital camera was SESSION 9,
and you notice there more, in a non-fx movie.

about your comment that ep2 film may be lower quality that other movies shot
on film. this is untrue because all movies shot these days are edited on
avid editing systems (digital editing), meaning all movies that are shot on
film, must be transfered into digital video to be edited, then back out onto
film for projection.
one of the reasons why lucas wanted to shoot in hi definition digital video
is because the format is already in video and doesnt need to be transfered
for sfx and editing. it gets edited in its original format and back out to
film.
the grain seen in the film is supposed to be there, thats what film is
about. everyone like the traditional look of film. grain is good. sharp
bright pictures are digital video.
hope this helps.

Star Wars Digital:
This could mean a much better picture in the theater, if your movie theater has a Boeing digital
projector.
Not necessarily. If Boeing bought the DLA-QX1G from JVC (supposedly the highest resolution projector
extant),
http://pro.jvc.com/prof/Attributes/specs.jsp?model_id=MDL101275&feature_id=03
then horizontal resolution is limited to 2048 points (vertical res. depends on image aspect ratio).
The machine which makes a negative print of the digital data onto film may have much better dynamic
range, contrast and resolution than the projector. The theater projection from a lightly used film
could be better than the image from the projector. Certainly after a week of many showings, the
Digital is likely to be better.

{regarding the comments above about Avid edited films}
This just isn't true at all. Films edited on the Avid system are not
transferred to digital video for the final film that the theater going
audience sees, only to edit with. The Avid accepts the film stock code
numbers for each frame of raw footage being edited and when the film edit
is completely done, these numbers are used to cut the actual film to match
the Avid cut.
Further, not all films are edited on the Avid system. Many are still done
the old fashioned way, by hand. For example, Steven Spielburg edits all of
his films by hand.

Subject: Star Wars Digital Film
I was in a theatre that had 2 screens showing episode 2 on saturday, 1
was a digital projector the other plain jane analog. The digital image
was exponentially better in quality. There was little if any distortion
of any kind. No "cigarette burns" in the corner, no crackling effect.
It was almost distracting how beautifull the image was. And to the guy
who said that everyone likes the traditional look of film, I DONT i loved
the digital. And so did everyone else i talked to.
