Details:A Warning About Cheap USB Chargers in Cars:
There are a lot of deals on USB chargers under $3, but beware those chargers could cause harm to your expensive phones, tablets, and cables.

We recently used a cheap vehicle charger, which provided a single USB charging output from a car's charging port. The power output may not have been regulated properly, since the cable quickly overheated and set off a burning odor.

We also tried a cheap USB charger that blew the fuse in the car, causing the dashboard lights to stop working until the fuse was reset.

Over time, faulty chargers can also destroy the connectors inside the charging port on your phone.

If you are considering a USB or phone charger for your car, we strongly recommend products that have a lot of positive reviews. People love to complain, so any product that ships just a few faulty units will generate a lot of bad reviews.

Examples of some deals with positive reviews:
  • Dual USB Vehicle Charging Port for $5 with free shipping from Verizon Wireless. Most reviews are positive.
  • Anker Dual USB Vehicle Charging Port for $10. Thousands of positive reviews.
  • FM Transmitter and Dual USB Charging Port for $18 from Amazon. We like ours, and hundreds of other buyers posted positive reviews on Amazon. Not only does it charge 2 phones at once, but can stream audio from a phone's Bluetooth (wireless) through your vehicle stereo system. It broadcasts your phone's sound through FM radio, so you can play music, Youtube videos, or audio books through your phone, and the sound can be controlled through your vehicle stereo like any radio station. We have not yet tried its built-in MicroSD port, but it can play up to a 32GB MicroSD card full of MP3 files. The microphone did not work for us, so making phone calls through this device may not work for people.
